Entrepreneur in Residence

A role at a VC firm where you get paid to work on your next startup and help vet deals or give advice to portfolio companies. People don’t apply to be an EIR, they are asked and are typically already successful entrepreneurs that the VC want to invest in early (although there is usually no obligation to invest or accept investment). There’s not much written about this role and it tends to be different across VC firms.
